lightpanda-io · Headless agent browser

Lightpanda Browser

Lightpanda is an open-source headless browser for AI agents and automation, from lightpanda-io. It is written from scratch in Zig and is not a Chromium or WebKit fork. The README reports a benchmark of 933 real web pages requested over the network on an AWS EC2 m5.large instance. In it, peak memory for 100 pages was 123MB against 2GB for headless Chrome (about 16x less), and execution time was 5s against 46s (about 9x faster). It exposes a CDP server for Puppeteer and Playwright, with WebDriver BiDi available through a flag. It can dump pages as HTML, markdown, PNG, PDF or structured data. A `lightpanda agent` mode drives the browser from plain-English instructions using a choice of hosted or local LLM providers. Sessions can be saved as PandaScript, a JavaScript format that replays without a model. The licence is AGPL-3.0 and the repository has 39,377 stars. Version 1.0.0 was released on 2 October 2026, and the latest release, 1.0.2, on 23 October 2026. Nightly builds are available for Linux and macOS, as are Docker images, and Windows is supported through WSL2.
